This project is an interactive installation that visualizes the emotional and psychological confusion caused by being in a relationship with someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).
The idea began with a question I kept asking myself: What happens to your own sense of reality when you’re constantly exposed to manipulation, charm, and emotional control? During my own experience with NPD abuse, I found myself constantly doubting my perception, losing clarity, and feeling mentally clouded. This overwhelming mental state is often described as “brain fog.”
I wanted to give that feeling a shape—something the audience could not just observe, but feel.
In this installation, picking up a ringing phone activates a voice that mimics narcissistic manipulation. As it speaks, fog slowly fills a transparent brain, and a mirror begins to fracture. The longer the viewer listens, the more distorted the world becomes.
Only by hanging up does it all stop—though a trace always lingers.
The soft brain model was made using a TPE-like or soft silicone gel material, commonly found in stress-relief toys.
